With Carnival 2015 in full swing in Trinidad and Tobago, the soca season is upon us. The International Soca Monarch, now in its 23nd year is touted as the biggest soca showcase that can be found in any part of the world was held last Friday. In case you know don’t know much about this event, the Soca Monarch is the most anticipated event in Carnival and described as an international competition it is broadcast around the world by organizers on the night. TT’s carnival comprises a lot of elements, and soca music and the artistes who deliver the genre in slow and fast tempos, dubbed Groovy and Power respectively, are just one aspect of the fun.

On Carnival Friday, referred locally as “Fantastic Friday“, thousands flocked to the National Stadium in islands’ capital, Port of Spain, to watch their artiste vie for the 2015 International Soca Monarch title. The competition kicked off around 8 p.m. with the Groovy Soca Monarch segment followed by the Power Soca Monarch and saw approximately 10 artistes compete in each category.


In the Groovy Soca Monarch category, Olatunji Yearwood won with his popular hit single “Ola,” while Farmer Nappy placed second with his banger “My House”. Antiguan Ricardo Drue was placed third with his song “Vagabond”. Listen all and more on our radio now!

Power Soca Monarch Results:

Trinidadian Soca star, Machel Montano, performed his most popular song for 2015, “Like ah Boss” to retain the Power Soca Monarch title for the fourth time consecutively, during the early hours of Saturday, beating NeilIwerGeorge and veteran comedienne Nikki Crosby a.k.a Granny.
